Golnar Kat Rahmani:
Type & Politics

Freeing Arabic Type from Ideological Connotations

Type and Politics is a project of Golnar Kat Rahmani. The article and following workshop seek to thematize this subject for the very first time and discuss the underlying causes and current state in European daily life.

Now more than ever, our perceptions and opinions are influenced by social, political and cultural changes. The emotionalized reaction of the observers of Arabic Type not only affects the type itself but has many more aspects, which Type & Politics addresses.

The goal is to decrease those negative connotations practically by learning and understanding principles of Arabic type and creating graphics with it experimentally. It ultimately adds curiosity, aesthetics, joy and intercultural alliance to its shattered image in society.

This talk is scheduled to take place online, , 2021, at in your current time zone (/UTC), as part of the main Typographics conference. Conference registration is available on a pay-what-you-can basis.
